After 2 weeks or more of intensive care, Muffin is finally back to normal. No more puffy and swollen eyes. No more redness in his eyes and no more funny discharge from his eyes. What a relief.
I called the Grooming shop and the groomer had the gall to reply me ” If it is something wrong with his eye … it has nothing to do with us or does it concern us… for we did not do anything / groom near his eye. Your dog must have injured his eye before you brought him over or after you brought him out from our shop.” Basically after 10 minutes or so of explanation, the under lying message is “We claim no responsibility and so quit bothering us” Just let me find an alternate groomer … you can kiss my business goodbye.
Any way .. I am just glad that muffin is back to his usual cheerful self , bring joy to those around him. Here are some of the shots I took of him this morning.
Those who had seen my dog or even pictures of my dog would know that his soulful eyes can melt the hardest and coldest of all hearts. However recently a trip to the groomer left his eyes red and swollen… and it is really heart breaking to hear his whines of pain when I added eye drops in an effort to reduce his swelling eyes.
Here is how the story goes. It is the weekend just after Christmas. I made an appointment with the groomer (PLC) at Simei Pet Safari. Muffin has been there a few times and services there had been satisfactory. However this time when I collect him, I notice that he was squinting in his left eye. I though he was having some irritation and that the irritations would go away after he sleeps for a while. Thus, I did not make much fuss at the pet shop, paid my money and brought Muffin home.
Muffin went home and curl up and sleep immediately. In the evening when he woke up, I had a shock as his left eye was so swollen that he could no longer open his eye lid. I tried to pry open his eye to find out what was wrong and I say the reddest eye ever. Dripping eye drops into his affected eye made him howl and whine with such ferocity and it threatens to tear apart our hearts.
Me and my wife panicked and started scouring the net for a 24 hour clinic. But as it was late into the evening and during the holiday season, I could not find a hospital to treat Muffin without burning a deep hole in my pocket. SIGH … without a better alternative, I applied cold compression on the exterior of his eye and keeps dripping eye drops into his affected eye. MY heart was constantly torn apart with his pitiful whining.
The next day I straight away brought him to see the vet clinic nearest my place (under management of Mount Pleasant), which happens to open on a Sunday. After an hour of waiting, the vet diagnosed that poor Muffin had a big ulcer on his cornea The size of the ulcer was about two thirds his eye. The ulcer was likely to be caused by an impact on his eye by a foreign object or friction between his cornea and a foreign object. Luckily the injury was superficial if not his eyeball could have rupture.
So now Muffin is currently the one-eye pirate and recuperating at home. Hope he recover soon.
Have not been blogging much lately …. basically I cannot command the will to commit a couple of minutes to pen or type down my thoughts coherently recently. A series of unfortunate events took place one after another with the most significant being my dad being hospitalized for thyroid cancer.
But enough about the past ..recently I heard a story that made my hairs stand and my blood boil. Before I continue to rant and rave I just want to make it clear that I am not here to belittle anyone nor is this anything personal … I just want an outlet for my pelt up frustrations and all evidences are strictly hear-say and not admissible in court.
Person A bought a puppy home to keep as a pet. The puppy was as cute as he can be and like all puppies, playful, innocent and not to mention adores person A. Now unknown to this person A, his mother dislikes the puppy. Instead of trashing things out with person A, the mother brought the puppy out (and I mean way out) … let the puppy wander until it was carried away by a stranger and then changed into a new set of clothes, threw away the old set of clothes (for it stink of puppy odour) and LIED to person A that the puppy wandered away and got lost on its own.
If I change the story a little bit, it could well be a plot for murder…. I really do not know what the mother of that person was thinking … As someone else’s mother I would expect the behavior to be more restrained, mature or even reasonable. But alas….the kind of behavior simply eludes my pea size brain.
My initial reaction after hearing the story was “…. your mum a bit not mature…?” and I think I am too kind … if that person happens to be my mother who do that to my dog … I would have given her a hell of a time and I guarantee she would not forget this incident for a very very long time. And I do mean a VERY VERY long time. This transcends irresponsible dog ownership to simply inhumane behavior….
What is a wonderful companion, stress reliever and a furry pillow/ boaster all rolled into one? the answer is none other than my lovable dog. He is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, 2 years old, local breed.
For the past 2 years, he is a faithful companion and he has never fail to bring a smile to my face (or my wife’s or my parent’s) after a rough day at work. To you he may be just part of your life but to him…. you are his whole life and he devotes his life to making you happy, pleasing you and making you feel wanted… where else can you get everything in one cheap package I wonder…
Enough talk .. here are some pics … taken with my new lens Cannon EF-S 17-85mm IS USM. Camera body is Cannon 400D.
